Denmark: Private operator Lokaltog has shortlisted Bozankaya, Končar, as well as Stadler for the supply of four contact-battery trains. The tender has been underway since last year, and the contract will also include the creation of charging infrastructure.
It is worth noting that Bozankaya and Končar have not previously participated in international tenders for the supply of this type of rolling stock. So far, the latter has produced only one contact-battery train, which began operation in Croatia this autumn.
Bozankaya, on the other hand, has not produced any railway rolling stock to date. Its portfolio currently features only trams and metro trains. However, its battery tram model supplied to Timișoara in Romania is notable for its claimed range of up to 70 km, which the manufacturer presented as a world record.
In terms of experience, Stadler appears the most attractive bidder. It is already fulfilling a contract with Lokaltog to supply 24 FLIRT Akku contact-battery trains, which have been produced in series for several years.
Lokaltog expects to sign the contract with the chosen supplier in autumn 2026. The new rolling stock is scheduled to enter service from late 2029 to late 2030.
