Russia: Guests and participants of the Eastern Economic Forum could see the small mock-up at the stand of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The train, which is being developed by TMH under a 2019 agreement with Russian Railways, Rosatom and the Sakhalin regional government, is said to be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells. According to the latest annual report of the national operator, the introduction of hydrogen rolling stock is expected in 2027–2028. Standardisation of on-board and refuelling systems is currently underway in Russia.
Although TMH has not yet made any official statements about the changes in the appearance of the future train, the mock-up shows a different look from the EGE2Tv Ivolga or EP2DM. The head car has a new front end and the doors are designed for low-floor boarding.
At the end of 2023, Mikhail Rozhkov, Deputy General Director for Technical Development of TMH, announced that hydrogen traction was being considered as one of the options for the new multiple unit platform. This summer, in an interview with ROLLINGSTOCK, Vladimir Andreev, head of the RZD Technical Policy, confirmed that the manufacturer was working on a unified train platform, assuming different types of traction, operating options, floor level, double-deck modification, etc.
