Russia: The trainset, which consists of the TEP70BS diesel locomotive, the EP2DM driving head car and modified non-motor cars, is currently undergoing tests at the TMH plant in Demikhovo. Following that, the testing will continue on the VNIIZhT railway research institute’s test track and the Belorechensk test site of the North Caucasus Railway. The train is expected to complete certification by late 2025.
The new rolling stock will serve non-electrified tracks. The traction is provided by the diesel locomotive, which pulls the train in one direction and pushes it when heading in the opposite direction. The control functions are duplicated so that the train can be operated from the driver’s cabs of both the locomotive and the head car.

Designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h, the DP2D can comprise from two to six cars, including the driving trailer. In a six-coach configuration, the trainset can accommodate 636 passengers seated.
In the 2000s, the Lugansk Locomotive Works was engaged in a similar project which resulted in the launch of a number of the DPL1 and DPL2 trains, consisting of the 2M62/2TE116 diesel locomotives, non-motor coaches and driving trailers.
