Russia: The TMH plant in Tver has been granted the TR CU 001/2011 certificate for serial production of the new bogies.

The 68-4120 bogie is designed for a speed of 160 km/h and features an increased axle load of 20 tf. The bogie running dynamics and fatigue strength were tested on the VNIIZhT railway research institute’s test track of the North Caucasus Railway. The tests have evidenced high results for the ride comfort, exceeding the parameters stated in the technical specifications.

The bogie is equipped with a coil spring suspension system as well as a new-type torsional stabilizer allowing for high torsional resistance of a double-deck coach, smooth passing of curves, and reducing lateral swinging. According to TMH, the components are 100% domestically manufactured, including the brake calipers and brake discs, a wheel slide protection system, a parking brake cable and other components.

The double-deck passenger coaches of the refurbished Aurora train, presented by RZD in October, are equipped with the new 68-4120 bogies. The first trip of the train, consisting of 15 double-deck coaches hauled by the EP2K electric locomotive, is scheduled for 19 December.

The whole line of bogies is going to be based on the newly-designed product. As reported by the manufacturer, a version with a reduction drive is being developed for use in independently powered cars, for example. Another bogie version for a design speed of 200 km/h is also planned to be constructed on the base of the 68-4120 model.
