Tanzania: Two pairs of trains now operate on the 440 km rail link between Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.

One of the trains is an eight-car Hyundai Rotem EMU and the other is a train of 14 Sung Shin RST passenger coaches hauled by a Hyundai Rotem electric locomotive. Both trainsets have a maximum speed of 160 km/h, with a journey time of three hours. According to Masanja K. Kadogosa, General Director of Tanzania Railway Corporation, the number of trains will increase in line with growing demand.

In 2021, the national operator placed a $245 mln order with Hyundai Rotem for 17 electric locomotives and 10 EMUs, and with Sung Shin RST for 89 passenger coaches, a special coach for the President of the country. The locomotive-hauled train has a capacity of over 900 passengers, while the EMU can accommodate 590 passengers.
