Sweden: The Spanish manufacturer has signed a framework agreement with the country’s transport administration, Trafikverket.
The €756 mln contract covers a firm order for 10 Vectron electric locomotives by Siemens Mobility, 9 day trains and 11 night trains from the Talgo 230 family—91 coaches in total—plus 10 years of maintenance. Trafikverket can also order a further 9 locomotives, 7 day trains and 11 night trains, and extend maintenance by two years.
The coaches for Sweden follow the same design as those now in service with Denmark’s DSB as EuroCity and with Germany’s Deutsche Bahn as ICE L. The Swedish version is rated for 200 km/h and is being engineered to run at temperatures as low as –40 °C.

Onboard, the trains will offer seating in several classes, a restaurant car, a bistro area and plenty of storage for bags, skis and bicycles. Sleeping coaches will include four-berth family compartments, two-berth premium compartments with en-suite toilet and shower, single-berth compartments and compartments for passengers with reduced mobility.
Entry into service is scheduled from 2030, with some services running north of the Arctic Circle. Talgo will build the coaches at its plants in Rivabellosa and Las Matas.
