Spain: The news was revealed by the Spanish manufacturer in its 2025 financial report. By the 2030s, Talgo plans to develop a new HSR platform, which will be a more energy-efficient successor to the Avril train featuring a maximum operating speed of 330 km/h. Further details were not disclosed.

The development of the existing Talgo Avril high-speed train started back in 2008, and it took the company 16 years to put it into commercial service. The trains entered passenger operation in May 2024 after a three-year delay of delivery. There were detected numerous faults in the first trains. In 2025, part of the fleet had to be taken out of operation due to the discovery of cracks in bogie frames.

Talgo’s 2025 revenue reached €618 mln, which is 7.6% less than in 2024. The company maintained a €4.5 bln backlog of orders (+7%), while its losses amounted to €100 mln (-6.7%). A new shareholding in the company is reported to strengthen Talgo’s position and financial capacity. This year, the expected revenue is estimated to reach around €750 mln. The order book would amount to €7.9 bln over the next two years. For this reason, the manufacturer plans to expand its team at the Rivabellosa facility and hire 200 new employees.
