Switzerland: The two-car low-floor SRHe 113 train was demonstrated at the commissioning centre in Erlen, Switzerland. A fleet of 10 such HMUs is expected to enter operation on the 950 mm lines served by Sardinia’s regional operator ARST.

Before commissioning, the new rolling stock is due to undergo a series of tests to comply with the requirements of ANSFISA, Italy’s National Agency for the Safety of Railways and Road and Motorway Infrastructure. With a starting acceleration of 0.81 m/s² and a maximum speed of 100 km/h, the SRHe 113 HMU offers 89 seats and 15 folding seats.

The Power Pack with fuel cells, hydrogen tanks and a 318 kWh traction battery is housed onboard in the train’s separate section. It can be passed through but has no seats for passengers. The design is similar to Stadler’s FLIRT H2, a basic hydrogen model that has been operating in the USA on 1,435 mm gauge lines since last year.

In July 2023, the manufacturer was awarded a framework contract for the delivery of 10 HMUs with a firm part for six units. Later, four remaining HMUs were ordered. In addition to ARST, Stadler is also building hydrogen trains for two more Italian operators, 10 units for FdC and two vehicles for FCE.
