Kazakhstan: The company has presented the new vehicle built for Kazakhstan during a visit by the country’s president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to its plant in Astana.
Production is now underway, with more than 400 employees engaged at the site. Stadler plans to manufacture 51 coaches at the plant this year.
The vehicles are being supplied under a contract signed with national railway operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) in early 2023. The agreement covers the delivery of 557 coaches of various types by 2030 and includes the transfer of the Tulpar manufacturing site in Astana to Stadler.
Manufacturing activities at the plant include carbody welding and painting, electrical assembly, bogie production and installation, interior fitting, and static and dynamic testing.
According to KTZ, the localisation rate is expected to reach 9.4% in the first year of production, rising to 35.2% by 2029.
UPD 16.07.2025: An error was made in the article dedicated to the presentation of the first coach. It stated that the delivery of rolling stock was initially scheduled to commence in 2023. This information is incorrect. According to the agreement between Stadler and the company Passenger Transportation, the first delivery was planned for 2025 from the very beginning. The ROLLINGSTOCK editorial team apologises to all readers, subscribers, and interested parties.
