Italy: Produced at the manufacturer’s site in Bussnang (Switzerland), the two-car trainset has debuted at EXPO Ferroviaria, the international railway exhibition in Milan. Maurizio Oberti, Stadler’s Sales Director for the Italian market, has stated that this is the first fully battery-powered electric train for the 950 mm gauge network in Europe.
The interior features 176 seats, one toilet and two bicycle areas. Equipped with four asynchronous electric motors, 150 kW each, and two lithium 636 kWh batteries mounted on the roof, the vehicle boasts a range of 70 km.

In 2023 and 2024, the Italian regional operator FAL ordered seven such trains at a cost of €63 mln. The whole fleet is due to enter service on the Altamura–Matera line by late 2026.
Before commissioning, the new trains will undergo a series of tests to comply with the requirements set out by Italy’s National Agency for the Safety of Railways and Road and Motorway Infrastructure.
