Norway: The state operator Norske tog was cited as follows. The year 2023 witnessed the long-distance FLIRT Nordic Express trains ordered from the Swiss manufacturer. Initially, the vehicles were to be put into public service in July 2027.
The delay is attributed to design issues and the flood, which took place last summer in Sierre, Switzerland. The flood led to water and mud damage of aluminium profiles for the future EMUs at Stadler’s subcontractor Constellium’s facility. Stadler has moved production to another site, whose name remains secret. Previously, the company declared that it had suffered natural disasters three times.
The contract between Stadler and Norske tog includes the supply of 17 trains by default and an option for another 83 units. Stadler aims to deliver eight-car EMUs, which can reach peak speeds of 200 km/h and accommodate 542 passengers.
