Switzerland: The six-car KISS EMU has been presented at the manufacturer’s plant in St. Margrethen. The first trains are expected to start operation on Austrian domestic routes in the middle of 2026.

The six-car trainsets can reportedly run at a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The interior features 480 first- and second-class seats, eight toilets, food areas, and multi-purpose spaces for bicycles and wheelchairs.

The framework contract valued at almost €3 bln for the delivery of 186 double-deck trains was signed between the national operator ÖBB and Stadler in February 2022. In the summer of 2023, the contract’s second option was exercised and a fleet of 14 Railjet long-distance trains and 21 Cityjet regional trains was ordered. The first trainset for the Cityjet service was exhibited at InnoTrans 2024. Under the framework contract and the exercised option, the Austrian operator is waiting for a total of 76 trains by summer 2027.
