Austria: The five-car double-deck trainset has been demonstrated to media representatives in Vienna. In autumn 2027, a fleet of three EMUs is expected to enter operation on the City Airport Train (CAT) line, connecting Vienna’s central railway station to the international airport.
Each 133 m train with a maximum speed of 200 km/h provides a capacity for 300 passengers. The design is tailored for air travellers, with more spacious luggage storage areas, wider gangways and extra-wide seats. There are also dedicated areas for wheelchairs and spaces for prams. Passengers will have access to power sockets and USB ports at every seat, free onboard Wi-Fi and a passenger information system with real-time updates.
The rolling stock is manufactured at Stadler’s facility in St. Margrethen, Switzerland. The CAT operator awarded Stadler a contract for the delivery of three trains in October 2023. The order is part of the €3 bln framework contract for up to 186 double-deck trains for the Austrian national operator ÖBB.
