Hungary: The Swiss manufacturer has unveiled the renderings of the five-car dual-system FLIRT electric trains. The design was developed with the participation of the Hungarian and Austrian operator GYSEV and the Innova Design Team, Germany.
The new trains will feature first- and second-class accommodation, a partially low-floor passenger compartment, a bistro area with vending machines and multifunctional spaces with bicycle holders and additional seats. The renderings also show the entry areas with luggage racks and toilets, as well as the FLIRT’s exterior. Besides, passenger amenities will include air-conditioning and modern information systems, Wi-Fi, and USB-C ports at every seat.
The FLIRTs will operate at a speed of up to 160 km/h both in Hungary and Austria. The contract for the supply of 11 such trains was signed in March 2024. The production is ready to start later this autumn at Stadler’s plant in Szolnok, Hungary, while the delivery is scheduled from the end of 2027 to the beginning of 2028 to connect Budapest with the cities of Sopron and Szombathely.
