Kazakhstan: The plans were announced when Kanat Sharlapaev, Minister of Industry and Construction, visited the Astana plant based on the former Tulpar site.
The plant, which covers an area of about 31,000 m2, is said to be able to produce over 100 passenger coaches per year. Production of the coaches in question was due to start in 2023.
According to informburo.kz, Stadler has refurbished a line for the assembly of sleeping coaches and renovated its production buildings. Stadler plans to double the current 300 jobs at the plant by 2026.

The contract, worth €2.3 bln and covering the construction of the passenger coaches, was signed in 2022. Stadler is to deliver 537 coaches to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and provide maintenance for a period of 20 years. The localisation level is said to be 9.4% in the first year, rising to 35.2% in 2029.
