Kazakhstan: The manufacturer’s plant in Astana has been granted permission for serial production of sleeper (WS) and couchette (WL) coaches as well as staff (WSb) and generator (WG) carriages. All the models belong to the platform named the CHARME.
The TR CU 001/2011 certificates of compliance received in Belarus allow for production of the rolling stock for five years, through 2030. The size of the initial batches is not unveiled.
In late 2025, the Astana site also acquired certification for the bogies to equip the coaches, while the bogie frames were certified for production at Stadler’s plant in Fanipol, Belarus.
According to a major contract, Stadler is to deliver 557 coaches of different types to the national operator Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) by 2030. The first sleeper and couchette coaches were presented last summer.
Previously, Diyar Nusipkozhanov, Chairman of the Board for Passenger Transportation (part of KTZ), stated that the operator expected the delivery of 51 coaches (at an average cost of $1.6 mln each) by the end of 2025, with a further 100 coaches to be supplied by late 2026. This year, the coaches from the first batch will enter operation on the routes connecting Astana with Almaty, Semipalatinsk, Shymkent, and Atyrau.
