South Korea: The country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported the news.
The vehicle will begin passenger service from 2027 on two routes: the 21 km Gyeongwon Line and the 30 km Daegok–Uijeongbu Line.
The KRW 32.1 bln ($22.4 mln) project involves seven organisations, including operator Korail, the Korea Railroad Research Institute and manufacturer Woojin Industrial Systems. The prototype will complete over 70,000 km of test runs within a year. Following successful trials, three additional hydrogen trains will be manufactured, with a refuelling station scheduled for construction at Yeoncheon Station in 2026.

Woojin Industrial Systems originally unveiled the hydrogen train prototype in 2023. The two-car unit is said to feature a 1.2 MW hybrid traction system. The vehicle can reach high speeds of 150 km/h and accommodate 125 passengers; it also offers a 600 km range with a 43 min refuelling time.
