India: The parent company of the German manufacturer has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian company BEML. The parties will cooperate in the construction of high-speed trains, EMUs and metro cars. No further details have been disclosed.
While BEML is winning Indian orders for metro cars and EMUs, Siemens Mobility is not yet present in the country’s huge passenger rolling stock market. At the same time, the German company is producing tram bogies in Aurangabad from 2022 and plans to localise the assembly of metro trains there.
BEML is also fulfilling a contract for trains with a design speed of 250 km/h. Such trains have never been built in the country before. Siemens Mobility has been producing high-speed trains for more than 30 years, with the Velaro platform being the most widely used in the world.
