Germany: Until the end of the week, the full-size 22 m head car will be exhibited on the city’s Königsplatz square.
The walk-in model includes the driver’s cab, an interior with 80 seats and folding seats, areas for wheelchairs, strollers, and bicycles, along with an inter-car gangway. The head car mock-up without a passenger compartment was earlier presented at InnoTrans 2024.
In summer 2023, the manufacturer and the operator Deutsche Bahn signed a contract worth over €2 bln for the delivery of 90 such trainsets to serve the S-Bahn urban rail system. The first trains are scheduled to be commissioned in late 2028.
Each 13-car train can run up to 160 km/h and accommodate 1,841 passengers, providing 400 seats and an additional 80 folding seats. The EMU will reportedly be equipped with silicon carbide (SiC) traction inverters, oil-free transformers and intelligent software.
