EU: The German-based rail consultancy estimates 2023 deliveries of intercity and night trains in continental Europe at €570 mln and locomotives at €90 mln.
In 2028, they forecast sales of passenger coaches at almost €1.7 bln and locomotives at €0.6 bln.
According to SCI Verkehr, the boom in locomotive-hauled passenger trains in the region is due to the demand for greater flexibility in rail transport, the willingness of manufacturers to offer more comfortable travelling, and the lower complexity of certification for cross-border traffic compared to high-speed MUs.

This can be seen in the example of Siemens, which has supplied coaches for the new NightJet, Railjet, and ComfortJet trains operated by Austria’s OBB and Czech’s CD. Major orders are being implemented in Denmark, Germany, Italy and other countries.
