Portugal: A low-floor, Series 2700 (FLIRT) train was unveiled at national operator CP’s depot in Entroncamento.
Manufactured at Stadler’s Valencia plant, it was delivered to Portugal by road. The vehicle has a capacity of 369 passengers and a maximum speed of 160 km/h powered by catenary and 140 km/h powered by diesel.
CP has ordered a total of 22 trains: 12 three-car hybrid units with a diesel-generator module and ten three-car EMUs. The €158 mln contract, signed in 2020, includes four years of maintenance. The purchase is co-financed by the EU under Portugal’s national Programme for Climate Action and Sustainability.

The new 1,668 mm gauge rolling stock will replace the diesel-powered Series 592 trains, built in the 1980s by Spanish manufacturers Macosa and Ateinsa (later absorbed by Stadler and Alstom). The entry into service of the Series 2700, originally planned for 2024–2025, has been postponed to the second half of 2026. Stadler attributes the delay to unforeseen circumstances, including last year’s severe flooding in Europe.
