Poland: The five-car ESD162 unit will undergo certification tests in Żmigród until November. Next year, the rolling stock is scheduled to enter commercial service on the domestic routes.
The diesel-electric train is able to run at a speed of 160 km/h on electrified lines and at up to 120 km/h in diesel mode. The trainset has a separate section with an inter-car gangway but without passenger seats, where four diesel engines are stored. The engines meet the Stage V emissions standard and ensure a range of 920 km.

The interior features 21 first-class seats, 156 second-class seats, and two dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. There is also a family zone with tables for board games, bicycle areas, vending machines and a personnel compartment.

After winning the relevant tender, Newag signed a contract for 35 hybrid trains with the Polish national operator PKP Intercity in July 2024. The procurement is valued at PLN 3.4 bln (€783.1 mln) and includes the rolling stock’s 10-year maintenance. The deliveries are expected to complete in the second quarter of 2029.
