Poland: As Rynek Kolejowy cites Hanna Wiśniewska-Sirbu, Head of Pesa’s Romanian Office, the three-car trainset is currently waiting for acceptance at the Bydgoszcz plant. In October, the new rolling stock is set for testing on the Făurei test track in Romania.

The RE-IR2 Series Regio160 train is designed to operate on 25 kV AC lines at speeds of up to 160 km/h. There are 192 seats with first- and second-class accommodation.

The 2023 contract with the Romanian railway reform authority ARF, followed by an option exercised in May 2025, covers the delivery of 29 such EMUs by the end of 2027. The fleet, along with 15 years of maintenance, will cost €317 mln.

In addition, Pesa is implementing another contract for ARF, providing for 62 commuter trains, with the first EMU from this fleet introduced in May. Now two Pesa trains are undergoing testing in Romania. It is expected that they will be approved for passenger operation by the end of the year.
