Malaysia: The rolling stock arrived from China at the end of last year, following a full cycle of tests at the manufacturer’s plant in Dalian. Now, one electric locomotive and two six-car trainsets are due to cover 8,000 km of test running.

The rolling stock is delivered under a 2022 contract, which includes the production of 11 CR200J trains and 12 freight electric locomotives for the 665 km East Coast Rail Link, the under-construction Malaysian line. The trains are supplied in two configurations, one for 406 seats (with business class) and the other for 425 seats (without business class). The trains have a maximum operational speed of 160 km/h, while the locomotives can run at 80 km/h. The whole fleet will enter service in January 2027, when the new line is expected to be launched.

The trains based on the CR200J Fuxing platform have been in operation in China since 2019. Each trainset has a head motor car at one end and a driving trailer at the other end. Two Chinese regions have earlier inaugurated the new-generation CR200J-C trains. Meanwhile, the vehicles are adjusted to meet Malaysia’s climatic conditions, and the interiors feature prayer areas.
