Japan: A ten-car Series 71-000 unit operates on the 12-km Rinkai Line of operator TWR.

Every one of the six motor cars is equipped with four asynchronous motors, each rated at 140 kW, and an IGBT transistor inverter from Mitsubishi.

The new train replaces the Series 70-000, manufactured by Kawasaki between 1995 and 2004. Compared to it, the Series 71-000 has a widened body in the centre section (up to 2,998 mm) and a lowered floor height by 50 mm, with minimal height differences at the doors. The train has a total capacity of 1,544 passengers, including 486 seated; each car has spaces for prams and wheelchairs.

The Series 71-000 is part of the Sustina S24 family, produced since 2018 with stainless steel bodies . However, the electrical equipment is identical to the earlier Series E233, operated by JR East since 2006. TWR has ordered eight trainsets from the Japanese manufacturer, with the final one due for delivery in 2027.
