Germany: A joint venture between Hyundai Rotem, Mitsubishi Electric Australia and UGL Rail unveiled a head car of a D-series EMU (Mariyung) at the Berlin fair. It is produced at the South Korean manufacturer’s plant in Changwon.
A total of 122 trains are to be delivered under a 2016 contract with a 2001 option, which has already been exercised: 61 six-car trains and 61 four-car trains.

Depending on the number of cars, a D-series train can carry 642 or 982 people. The vehicle features a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h with an acceleration of 0.8 m/s2 and offers passengers space for prams, wheelchairs, bicycles, and luggage.
The timetable is for commissioning in New South Wales by the end of December, four years later than originally planned. One of the reasons for the delay is numerous defects discovered during testing.
