Netherlands: The design of the upcoming four-car Civity train has been presented by the Dutch national operator NS. The full-size mock-up unveils the interior with various types of seats, dedicated areas for wheelchairs and bicycles, a driver’s cab, and a toilet.
The end motor cars are single-deckers with level access thanks to their lower floor and retractable steps, while the intermediate cars are double-deckers to provide a maximum passenger capacity.
In the end of 2022, the Spanish manufacturer was awarded a €600 mln contract for the delivery and maintenance of 30 four-car and 30 six-car units. Initially, the first train was due to enter service in 2028, but now the launch is planned for 2029. According to NS, the postponement is entailed by last year’s flood which affected a factory in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, and caused damages to the train body aluminium profiles produced there.
