South Africa: According to Railways Africa (read an original feature here), the local company has delivered the train to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

The seven-car 10M5 train underwent a comprehensive overhaul at a facility in Germiston. This included a complete rebuild of the exterior and interior, repair of bogies and doors, replacement of wiring and other works.

This year, Mirai Rail has set itself the objective of refurbishing 15 trains as part of a major overhaul programme implemented by PRASA with the aim of upgrading its passenger rolling stock, representing an investment of ZAR 7 bln ($389.8 mln). The programme will result in the renewal of 30% of cars owned by Metrorail, a commuter operator, and 40% cars for international traffic between 2023 and 2027.

The 10M5 EMUs (previously 5M2A) were built in RSA in 1962–1985. In 1999, Metrorail and SARCC initiated an extensive refurbishing programme, with the first renewed train returning to passenger service in 2001.
