Mexico: The first 473 km section with 14 stations was launched between the states of Quintana Roo and Campeche.

A fleet of 4 four-car Xiinbal trains with 230 seats has been put into service. The trains are said to use ultra-low sulphur diesel produced at the Deer Park plant in the USA.

In 2021, Alstom, as part of a consortium, won a tender for the supply of 42 such diesel trains (219 cars) and signalling systems. Three X’trapolis modifications are expected to be delivered: Xiinbal with seating cars, Janal with dining cars, and P’atal with sleeping berths. The first train was delivered in July.

The deliveries are expected to be completed late in 2024, with the entire 1,500 km line to open at the end of February. The maximum speed of the trains will be 160 km/h but is currently limited to 120 km/h due to unprepared signalling systems.
