USA: On 31 January, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) put on display a four-car train at Lindbergh station. The vehicles are designed for a line connecting the city with one of the world’s busiest airports.
The two-car CQ400 trains, powered by a 750 V DC third rail, have a maximum speed of 113 km/h. Each vehicle has 128 seats and up to two of these can run in multiple.
A $646 contract was signed in November 2019 for the delivery of 127 trains, with two options totalling 50 vehicles. The trains are assembled in Szolnok, Hungary, and Solt Lake City, USA. As some components are ordered from US companies, e.g. 336 HVAC systems were purchased from Wabtec, the local content in the USA reaches 60%.
Testing of the first two trains delivered this month is reportedly expected to take about a year.
