Recent deals and tenders in the passenger rolling stock markets.
Italy — Trenitalia has ordered a further nine ETR 1000 high-speed trainsets from Hitachi Rail under a €260 mln addendum, marking the second option to the 2023 framework. Trenitalia now has 55 units on order.
Spain — National operator Renfe has launched a tender for up to 40 high-speed trainsets with an operating speed of 350 km/h. The €1.8 bln contract has a firm part of 30 sets valued at €1.4 bln. Each standard gauge trainset must offer at least 450 seats in two classes, plus multi-purpose areas and a buffet. First deliveries are due 2.5 years after contract award, with the final units 6.5 years later. The new fleet is expected to replace Alstom Series 100 (TGV-A) sets dating from the early 1990s. Renfe’s last high-speed procurement was Talgo Avril trainsets for 330 km/h operation. Talgo itself announced work on a new 350 km/h platform this year.

Slovakia — Škoda Group in consortium with ŽOS Trnava has won a tender for up to 15 trainsets from ZSSK as the sole bidder. The multi-system 26Ev EMUs with a maximum speed of 200 km/h will be supplied under a €645 mln framework agreement including 10-year maintenance. EU funding is planned but not confirmed. The initial tranche covers eight sets.
Serbia — CAF will supply 30 Civity three-car EMUs to Srbijavoz for Belgrade’s BG Voz suburban network under a contract worth over €300 mln. Each unit will seat 546 passengers with a top speed of 120 km/h. The new trainsets will replace 1980s Riga-built Series 412 (ER31) EMUs. Recently, Srbijavoz acquired from Stadler and CRRC.

Russia — TMH will supply 36 passenger coaches to private operator Tverskoy Express on lease with the State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK) backing. The order includes coupled coaches (61-4517) with four-berth and two-berth compartments, plus staff coaches and restaurant cars. Two sets are due by summer for the Moscow–Adler route.
Belarus — Belarusian Railways has tendered for 30 four-car AC EMUs. Eighteen sets require 3+3 and 3+2 seating for 312 seats minimum, with the remaining 12 in 3+2 layout for 270 seats. Maximum speed is 160 km/h. The initial price is BYN 908 mln ($307 mln), with deliveries from June 2026 to end-2030.

Russia — CEPC plans to introduce 11 more Ivolga 4.0 EMUs from TMH on the Yaroslavl line by year-end. It has not been announced whether this is a new order or part of existing contracts. Late 2025 saw a further 47 Ivolga sets contracted for the Moscow hub to 2030.
