Contracts and deals in the passenger rolling stock markets.
Hungary — The country is planning to allocate €2 bln towards rolling stock procurement. Transport Minister Dávid Vitézy has stated that the earmarked funds will enable the purchase of at least 35 inter-regional trains as well as 42 new trainsets for suburban services. The procurement process is expected to commence this year, with entry into service possible from 2029. The Hungarian government had previously reached an agreement with the European Commission to unblock €16.4 bln in frozen EU funds. However, to receive this sum — part of which is intended for rolling stock acquisition — the country must fulfil a number of conditions.
Poland — A leasing company, Port Polska.KDP, has been established which will be responsible for procuring high-speed trains. In the near term, the company is expected to issue tenders for three types of trainset. It has previously been reported that the procurement plan covers 40 trainsets with a maximum speed in excess of 300 km/h, 16 AeroExpress trainsets, and 24 dual-system RegioExpress units for operation at up to 200 km/h. The total cost of the rolling stock procurement, together with an associated maintenance facility project, is estimated at PLN 10.1 bln (€2.3 bln). Of this, PLN 1.7 bln (€399 mln) is to be raised through bond issuance, with the remainder sourced via commercial financing.

Russia — TMH is to supply 35 passenger coaches to private operator Tverskoy Express. The holding signed the relevant lease agreement with the State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK) on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026. The order comprises twin-car sets (type 61-4517) featuring four-berth and two-berth first class compartments, plus staff coaches and restaurant cars, all manufactured at the TMH plant in Tver. The coaches will be formed into two Nochnoy Express (Night Express) trainsets, which are scheduled to enter service on the Moscow–Adler route this summer.

Bulgaria — Alstom has delivered the first two Coradia Stream electric multiple units. The trainsets have already been finished in the operator’s livery and assigned the fleet designation 35-00. Together with the recently delivered 7Ev EMUs from Czech manufacturer Škoda Group, they are the first new electric multiple units to arrive in the country in 20 years. Each six-car low-floor trainset accommodates more than 320 seated passengers and has a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The contract for the supply of 35 trains, valued at €452 mln, was signed in spring last year and includes a 15-year maintenance agreement worth €268 mln. The rolling stock is to be delivered within two years.
