Recent deals and tenders in the passenger rolling stock market.

Mexico — 41 diesel multiple-units from Alstom will be purchased under a contract worth Us $1.1 bln, including maintenance. The deal, awarded by the government following a competitive tender, saw CAF and CRRC also participate, but Alstom’s offer was the most cost-effective. The French manufacturer has previously supplied 42 X’Trapolis diesel units for the Tren Maya line.

Poland — There has been detailed the number of high-speed and very high-speed trains to be procured for the CPK project. The plans include 40 trains capable of operating above 300 km/h, 16 AeroExpress trainsets, and 24 dual-system RegioExpress units for 200 km/h operation. The tender is expected to be launched in 2026. In parallel, operator PKP Intercity has initiated a procurement process for up to 55 trainsets with a maximum speed of no less than 320 km/h, inviting proposals from major manufacturers.

France — CAF will deliver another 22 Regiolis trains, based on the Coradia Polyvalent platform. The six-car EMUs, worth €250 mln, have been ordered by national operator SNCF for the Provence–Alpes–Côte d’Azur region. This marks CAF’s third French contract in 2025, following previous orders for 30 units from the Bourgogne–Franche-Comté and Grand Est regions. The trains will be produced at the Reichshoffen plant, which—together with associated intellectual property—was acquired from Alstom in 2022.

Switzerland — Stadler has completed delivery of its SMILE (Giruno) high‑speed trains to SBB. The final unit of the 41 ordered under the original 2014 contract and two subsequent options was handed over in mid‑December. This final train will operate on the Basel–Hamburg route.

Italy — FS Group has commissioned 241 new trains and buses this year, including coaches, multiple‑unit trainsets and high‑speed stock. The renewals form part of the national railway company’s 2025–2029 strategic plan.

United Kingdom — State‑owned operator TransPennine Express has accelerated the procurement process for up to 55 new trains, with a firm order planned for 29 units. According to the UK Department for Transport, the company has issued invitations to negotiate to five bidders from the 2024 tender. The process is expected to conclude by mid‑2026.

Latvia – Škoda Group will supply nine battery‑electric trainsets under a contract worth €89.4 mln (nearly €5 mln per vehicle) signed with the national roads administration ADT. The two‑car units will operate at up to 160 km/h on overhead supply and 120 km/h in battery mode. Škoda won the tender ahead of Stadler and CAF. The contract includes EU and state funding and an option for a further seven units, with delivery planned for 2029.

Russia — TMH and Sberbank Leasing will supply five EP2DM electric multiple‑units to Central Exurban Passenger Company. Sberbank Leasing won the tender for the delivery of 11‑car trainsets, offering a total contract price of RUB 18.9 bln ($242 mln), including RUB 5.9 bln ($75 mln) for the rolling stock itself. The EMUs, built by the TMH plant in Demikhovo, are to be delivered within three months of signing the contract, with a 15‑year lease term.
