Recent deals and tenders in the passenger rolling stock market.
Greece, Ireland, France — Alstom will deliver 58 electric trains to these countries. The manufacturer has signed a contract for 23 six-car Coradia Stream EMUs with the Greek passenger operator Hellenic Train. The procurement is valued at €393 mln, including 10 years of maintenance. The passenger operator Irish Rail has also ordered a fleet of Alstom’s trains, exercising an option for another 20 five-car X’trapolis trains worth €160 mln. This will bring the total number of trains ordered since 2021 to 57 units. For its part, the French national operator SNCF has placed an additional order for 15 high-speed Avelia Horizons at a cost of around €600 mln, which complements the base order of 115 such trainsets. The delivery is expected in 2029.

Poland — The regional operator Koleje Mazowieckie has ordered a final 11 five-car Stadler FLIRT EMUs, which is the last tranche of a 2024 framework agreement for 75 such trainsets. The first of the EMUs, produced at Stadler’s facility in Siedlce, Poland, is expected to enter service in April.

Saudi Arabia — The national operator SAR has launched a tender for the supply of 10 passenger trains. The rolling stock is intended for the Northern network, connecting several major cities, among them Riyadh, Al-Majma’ah, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, and Qurayyat. The winner of the Saudi Arabian operator’s previous tender was Stadler, which signed a contract with SAR for up to 20 diesel trains in 2024.

France — CAF is due to supply another 10 Regiolis trains (based on the Coradia Polyvalent platform) to France. The national operator SNCF has ordered the fleet of four-car EMUs worth €80 mln for the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Previously, 52 trains were purchased for the regions of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Grand Est and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. CAF will manufacture the rolling stock at its French facility in Reichshoffen, which Alstom divested to the Spanish company in 2022, along with the intellectual property rights for the Coradia Polyvalent platform.
Slovenia — SŽ, the country’s national operator, has awarded the Hungarian manufacturer Magyar Vagon with a contract for 20 passenger coaches at a cost of €71.8 mln, including VAT. The delivery scheduled up to October 2028 includes 15 seating and five multifunctional coaches, designed for a maximum operational speed of 200 km/h.
