China: The depot built by the CRCC construction company near Chengdu encompasses an area of 1.4 km2, including 12 tracks in addition to several buildings.
The new facility will facilitate an increase in high-speed traffic through the Chengdu hub towards southwestern China.
The depot will reportedly allow for servicing up to 24 trains simultaneously and 90 trainsets per day. This is also the first Chinese maintenance facility to diagnose the condition of trains moving at speeds up to 30 km/h.
The national high-speed rail network currently comprises over 3,500 trains. These are both foreign vehicles and trains from the Fuxing family. China is now developing a Fuxing train with a design speed of 400 km/h. Furthermore, the country is planning to expand its high-speed rail network to 70,000 km by 2035.
