Japan: The first four-car trainset has been delivered from the plant in the city of Higashiosaka to a Yao-based depot of the passenger operator Kintetsu.
The 12 trains will commence passenger service in the Kyoto, Osaka and Nara Prefectures in October, and a further 17 vehicles will be launched on other routes next year.
The 8A series trains consume 45% less electricity than the trains built in the 1960s, which they replace, according to the Japanese manufacturer. They also offer swivel seats, four cameras and two emergency call buttons. Near the intermediate doors, there is space for two wheelchairs and large luggage. The number of seats and the design speed of the trains have not yet been disclosed.
