Beginning from July 2025, Alstom will operate and maintain the Los-Angeles Metrolink regional rail network. With a base term of five years, the contract allows for a three-year extension. In this case, it would be valued at $860 mln.
Alstom will provide operations across all the Metrolink system with eight lines of 878 km, as well as exploit a fleet of 258 passenger cars (including 57 driving trailers) and 60 diesel locomotives. The cars produced between 1992 and 2013 were delivered by Bombardier Transportation (acquired by Alstom in 2021) and the South Korean train manufacturer Hyundai Rotem. The diesel locomotives were produced between 1992 and 2021 by local companies, EMD and MPI.
Earlier in March, Alstom submitted an application for providing passenger rail service across England and Wales since 2025. The French company plans to operate under the brand name WSMR with its own fleet.
