Denmark: A pair of two-car Mireo Plus B units have been delivered to the Lemvig depot. A series of tests and certification will follow before the vehicles enter passenger service, which is expected to commence in late summer on a low-traffic line in the west of the country.
In the meantime, the BEMUs will not run under catenary, so the railway infrastructure is prepared for their operation in battery mode with five charging facilities to be installed at the route’s terminal stations and at the depot. Additionally, the track will be reconstructed to handle an axle load of 22.5 t, while currently it can only accommodate trains with an axle load of up to 17.4 t. The Mireo Plus B with a battery range of 80 km is reportedly able to operate at a speed of 140 km/h, providing seats for 120 passengers.

In 2022, the Danish regional operator Midtjyske Jernbaner ordered a total of seven Siemens Mobility’s BEMUs. The new hybrid vehicles are going to replace the Lynette (type Y) diesel trains, produced by Duewag, Germany, and Scandia, Denmark, in the 1980s. It is anticipated that the whole fleet will be put in operation in the course of 2025. Remarkably, this is the first and so far the only export order for the battery Mireos.
