Romania: The first Coradia Stream vehicle started transporting passengers on the Bucharest–Brașov line in November.
However, the train was cancelled due to the onboard system issues the day after the inaugural journey. The situation hasn’t been remedied yet. The EMU makes only a single trip a day instead of two originally scheduled journeys and then heads for the depot for troubleshooting failures.
In addition, Alstom is missing delivery deadlines. The first 12 trains were to be supplied by February 2024, but there are only three EMUs currently available. Recently, the manufacturer has agreed to extend the deadlines for the whole fleet until the end of 2025. The operator CFR estimates that the losses have already reached €6 mln and plans to enforce them through court.
Alstom received the Romanian contract following a lawsuit. Initially, the order for 37 trains was awarded to the consortium of the local Astra Vagoane and CRRC, which has already made a train, tailored for Romania.
