China: An eight-car prototype of the GSYE61 (Type D) was displayed at the MetroTrans exhibition held in Qingdao in September. Although equipped with a control console, the train is designed to have the highest Grade of Automation, GoA4.

The train is intended for the 86 km Beijing – Xiong’an line, scheduled to open in 2026. It can accommodate 844 passengers, including 428 seated. Business-class seating and a luggage car are provided.

Its car bodies use carbon-fibre composite materials. The trainset includes four powered cars equipped with permanent-magnet synchronous traction motors with a total output of 5,280 kW. The new train’s failure rate is said to be 95% lower than that of the previous generation, while energy consumption will be reduced by 16%. The train is also fitted with an intelligent self-learning diagnostic system featuring 2,900 sensors. Full redundancy has been implemented in the control system for the first time.
