China: Two four-car trains have been shown at a CRRC facility in Ningbo. The purple-and-blue train is destined for Line 10, the blue-and-green one for Line 12. Both lines are due to open in Ningbo before the end of the year.
Each 95.3 m-long train has capacity for 1,010 passengers, features 178 seats, and has a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The permanent magnet synchronous traction motors are said to cut energy consumption by around 14% compared with traditional asynchronous traction systems.

“The weight of the vehicle has been reduced by about 4.3 tonnes through structural optimisation and material upgrades, which is 2.4% less than that of conventional urban trains,” says Cui Qingyi, chief designer at CRRC Zhuzhou. “A streamlined design is used to reduce aerodynamic drag by 5%.”
The trains also feature improved noise-reduction technology and AI-based sensors that track passenger numbers in real time and automatically adjust lighting and temperature. Seats are arranged transversely, with tables in some seating bays.
