China, Malaysia: The first trainset was showed to the customer, the country’s Ministry of Transport, at the plant in Zhuzhou.
The 1,000 mm gauge six-car Class 94 ETS3 EMU can reach speeds of 160 km/h and has a passenger capacity of 312 people, with 36 of them in business class.
The train is fitted with an intelligent driver assistance system and meets modern impact resistance and fire safety requirements. The company says that 640 A⋅h batteries can support the EMU’s emergency lighting and ventilation system for two hours.
Under the 2020 contract, the first two trainsets are to be built in China, the other eight are to be assembled at CRRC’s plant in Batu Gajah, Malaysia. The last train is set to be delivered in August 2025.
In 2010–2020, CRRC supplied 57 EMUs and 13 DMUs to Malaysia. The Chinese company is also carrying out a project of a hydrogen-powered ART “tram” on wheels for Kuching.
