Croatia: The two-car low-floor unit of the Series 6012 is now in service on the Virovitica–Bjelovar route.
It is equipped with lithium-ion batteries totalling 736 kWh capacity, supplied by Swiss manufacturer Leclanché. According to Končar, the train has an optimal range of around 100 km per charge, with test runs achieving over 200 km.
Charging is carried out at fixed stations developed by Končar, each with a power output of 1 MW, allowing a full recharge in 27 minutes. The train can operate in multiple with other Končar models.
In 2022, Croatia’s national operator HŽPP ordered the battery and electro-battery trains along with six charging stations, at a cost of €17 mln. This year saw a further €118 mln contract signed for an additional four battery, four electro-battery, and five hybrid (diesel and overhead line) trains. Funding for these projects has been supported by the European Investment Bank.
