UK: Siemens Mobility has calculated this when considering the use of diesel- and hybrid-powered trains with its new Desiro Verve bi-mode trains.

The company says that it would only require 20–30% of a line to be electrified for the trains to operate. They are to be produced in Goole, the UK, where Siemens is preparing to launch the new site.

It is to take 20 minutes to charge the trainset from a 25 kV AC overhead line or from Rail Charging Converters, being under development by Siemens.

This year, Siemens Mireo Plus battery bi-mode trains were launched in Germany. Their operating range is said to be 80–120 km.

Currently, the UK is testing a Class 230 BEMU, developed by the local Vivarail (went bankrupt in 2022), and runs bi- and tri-mode trains by Stadler.
