Azerbaijan: The purchase of the rolling stock is part of the State Programme for Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and surrounding areas for 2025–2030, approved last week by President Ilham Aliyev.
Tenders will be organised for the rail network, with 20 trains to be delivered in two batches and commissioned. The main supplier of such trains in the country is currently Stadler. It has recently signed a contract to supply four diesel and six electric FLIRT trains.
For the capital’s metro, the programme provides for the purchase of 299 cars, as 177 cars have been out of operation in recent years, leaving 351 Russian-made cars remaining in service.
Between 2018 and 2023, Baku has already renewed 20 trains, and today, according to Baku Metro, the delivery of another 13 trains is underway.
