Germany: The company has won a 2.5 bln tender to supply 130 high-capacity Coradia Stream HC four-car trains for Baden-Württemberg. The contract also includes maintenance of the vehicles for 30 years and an option to supply up to 100 trains.А

The rolling stock purchase is supervised by the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW), which owns the train fleet in the region. It plans to put new Coradia Stream HCs in operation in 2025.

The trains will have compartments for conferences and family trips, recreation areas, as well as compartments for bulky luggage, prams and bicycles. It is assumed that each train will include two double-deck head and two single-deck intermediate cars. The capacity of the train will be 380 passengers, length – 106 m, maximum speed – 200 km/h.

Alstom focuses on equipping trains with modern signaling and automation systems as part of the Stuttgart Digital Hub project. The rolling stock will be equipped with a GoA2 level automation system, ETCS level 2 and 3 traffic control systems, as well as a TIMS train integrity monitoring system.

Although Alstom has a factory in Salzgitter, Germany, which specializes in electric and diesel trains production, the EMUs for Baden-Württemberg will be produced at the site in Katowice, Poland. According to Alstom, this train model is not intended for assembly on a German site. This is also confirmed by Baki Erkoc, head of the factory council of the Salzgitter plant. However, he expresses concern about the uneven distribution of orders between the sites of Alstom.

The contract with Baden-Württemberg is already the second major order this year, which passes by the German site. For example, in January, Alstom signed a framework contract worth €1.8 bln with the Norwegian operator Norske Tog for the supply of up to 200 Coradia Nordic EMUs. Initially, it was assumed that the trains would be assembled in Salzgitter, but later it became known that the production of body frames would be transferred to the plant in Wroclaw, Poland. It is worth noting that part of the contract for Baden-Württemberg will still be completed in Germany. Technical maintenance of trains is supposed to be organized at the Mannheim depot.

The Coradia platform has been in the Alstom portfolio since 2011 and includes eight train models: Stream, Nordic and Meridian electric trains, Polyvalent dual-system electric train, Continental hybrid (traction from catenary and batteries), Duplex double-deck electric train, LINT diesel train and hydrogen iLINT. Alstom notes that it has received orders for more than 3.3 thsd Coradia trains of so far.
