UK: The four-coach Class 220 unit, originally built by Bombardier Transportation in 2000 (acquired by Alstom in 2021), has undergone refurbishment at the company’s Derby facility.
The refurbishment programme includes a complete interior and exterior overhaul. New seats with increased legroom and integrated power sockets have been fitted, along with replaced tables. The trainset now features LED lighting, upgraded CCTV and passenger counting systems. Bike areas, vestibules and toilets have also been improved.

It was signed in August 2024 and is funded by rolling stock lessor Beacon Rail, with CrossCountry to operate the fleet. Around 130 Derby staff are involved in delivering the work.
