New Zealand: This week, the Greater Wellington Regional Council placed an order with Alstom for 18 Adessia Stream B BEMUs.
The €538 mln contract also covers 35 years of maintenance using the proprietary HealthHub predictive maintenance technology, which monitors asset condition to anticipate faults. For this purpose, Alstom will construct a maintenance depot in Masterton.
The five-car Adessia Stream B trains will accommodate up to 475 passengers and operate at speeds of up to 120 km/h. The trains have been specifically engineered to suit Wellington’s suburban rail infrastructure. They will replace the existing diesel-hauled services, comprised of Mark 2 coaches and DFT (GT22MC) locomotives built by BREL and EMD between the 1970s and 1980s, which have been modernised over subsequent decades. Entry into service is planned for 2028-29.

Production will take place at Alstom’s Savli plant in India, although the manufacturer also maintains three facilities in Oceania, located in Ballarat, Dandenong and Perth, Australia.
