Poland: The French manufacturer has won a tender announced by the Polish national operator PKP Intercity in October 2024.
The firm part of the order includes the supply of 42 trainsets and their 30-year maintenance. Alstom is expected to deliver the fleet within 6.5 years after the contract signing.
The new dual-system EMUs must have a maximum speed of at least 200 km/h and accommodate not less than 480 passengers. Two of Alstom’s sites in Poland, Chorzów and Nadarzyn, will be engaged in the manufacturing process.
The base contract is valued at PLN 8.5 bln (€1.9 bln), while the whole order will cost PLN 13.8 bln (€3.2 bln). Meanwhile, a bid from Stadler, another participant of the tender, was PLN 8.9 bln (€2 bln) and PLN 14.8 bln (€3.5 bln) correspondingly. The Swiss manufacturer previously expressed discontent about hard-to-implement requirements for the climate control system and inadequate contractual penalties.
