Egypt: The French manufacturer has concluded a usufruct agreement for a 16.2-hectare land reserve with the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports of Egypt’s Ministry of Transport. The signing ceremony was held during French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to the country.
The plants with an expected 1,200 new local jobs are to be constructed near Alexandria. The one facility will focus on producing trams, monorails and high-speed trains, while the other will be dedicated to manufacturing signalling, electrical systems and components.
Alstom is implementing a number of significant projects in Egypt. In 2022, the French company secured a contract for the construction and maintenance of Cairo Metro Line 6, including the delivery of 294 driverless Metropolis cars. Besides, Alstom is currently supplying 55 trainsets for Cairo Metro Line 1 and building the monorail system with 70 Innovia 300 trains, being produced at the manufacturer’s plant in Derby, UK.
